I’ve been pretty into skincare for awhile now, I can’t even remember when did i start seeing skincare as a daily
enjoyment essential. My past self used to think that it was important to invest a lot in makeup to be the best version of myself, but I’ve been learning to better and repair (?) my flaws instead of covering them!
Here are some of the products that I’ve finished and my thoughts on them.
1. Mamonde Rose Water Toner
I read about rose water being moisturizing (I have dry combination skin) so I decided to try this out. I didn’t really see it make a difference after using this religiously day and night, but it didn’t break me out, so that’s a plus point? I still did have dry flakes while using this, but it might be due to my skin being dehydrated at the time (I was still pretty new to skincare back then) and I wasn’t hydrating and moisturizing my skin well enough.
– I doubt that I’ll be repurchasing this toner any time soon (unless someone makes a ground-breaking statement about it, then I might reconsider).
2. Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Facial Toner
It all started when I read about the benefits and properties of Witch Hazel; it clears up acne, soothes irritated skin… So I decided to give this toner from Simple a go. I picked this toner up from the pharmacy and immediately started to use it that very night (even though I wasn’t done with my Klairs toner). The next morning, I woke up with tiny bumps on the right side of my cheek had little bumps! I made the mistake of ignoring the little bumps and continued to use it day and night; by the 4th day, the bumps on my cheek had formed into red and painful (similar to cystic acne) huge bumps. It was truly a nightmare, I immediately stopped using it and tried so many things to make the bumps go away. The bumps aren’t red of painful anymore but the scars are still there.
– Never again.
3. dear, Klairs. Supple Preparation Facial Toner (Original)
I bought this and took it with me to my trip to Hong Kong last year. I used it together with the Rich Moist Soothing Serum and Rich Moist Soothing Cream. I’m not going to lie, this trio did absolutely nothing for my skin. My face was cracking, nose was peeling and I was breaking out so badly! I looked like a troll walking around on the streets of HK, with my face so dry that it hurts I continued using it when I got back to Malaysia, because it wasn’t cheap (yikes). My face wasn’t flaking and dry as much as it was in Hong Kong anymore but the toner really wasn’t as moisturizing as it claimed to be. (Plus the moisturiser made my nose look so shiny, I have another tube left plz send help)
– I’m on the second bottle but I won’t be repurchasing this anymore.
4. The Plant Base: AC Clear Pure N Lotion
I started using this slightly after finishing secondary, which was around December ’16. Like I mentioned, I’m dry combination so I tend to flake very easily. At the time, my nose was extremely dry, especially at the sides. I also had acne on my nose, between my brows and near my brows. I remember when I was using this I thought that it was a good sign that it STUNG upon contact with my dry skin and acne. It wasn’t moisturizing but it didn’t help slightly with my acne. Bit because it didn’t have moisturizing properties, it made my skin secrete so much oil and sebum that I was still breaking out. And dry.
– A product that stings does not necessarily mean that it’s helping! Will not repurchase.
TL;DR I will not be purchasing any of the abovementioned.
One thing that I’ve learned throughout my skincare journey is to never ever follow someone else’s skincare regimen
(just brcause they have clear skin e.g. YouTubers) or to buy the products your friend with clear skin uses because what works for someone else might not work for you! Obviously you can ask them about it and use it as a reference but don’t follow then blindly; always do your research before purchasing a product and do patch tests.
